In Turkey's Hatay province, there is a city where no buildings have collapsed. This city is Erzin. The mayor of Erzin, Ökkeş Elmasoğlu, a member of the opposition Republican People's Party, attributed the absence of collapsed buildings and casualties in the city to strict adherence to legal regulations, according to Turkish newspaper Cumhuriyet.

The mayor stated that unauthorized constructions or permits for them are categorically prohibited in Erzin. He emphasized that he has not even allowed his relatives to build unauthorized structures, and that the construction standards of buildings being erected undergo meticulous checks.
