Zambakchyan Family Appeals to Armenian Government from Turkey for Repatriation
The Zambakchyan family, comprising Karapet and his elderly parents, has publicly appealed to the Armenian government from Turkey for repatriation. During the earthquake, they lost their home in Alexandrette (Iskenderun) along with all their documents. As a result, they cannot physically cross the border, but their case is being handled by the office of the High Commissioner for Diaspora Affairs of the Armenian government.
The issue is that Karapet is an Armenian citizen, while his parents, Harutyun and Mari, are citizens of Syria and Turkey. The family's son has reached out to the Armenian government for assistance in returning to their homeland, as stated during a press conference by Hovhannes Aleksanyan, head of the strategy development department of the Diaspora Affairs Office.
“During the earthquake, Karapet Zambakchyan, Harutyun Zambakchyan, and Mari Martikyan lost their home and all their documents. The Diaspora Affairs Office has established contact with the relevant department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Armenia to investigate the case. If it concerns Armenian citizens, it is possible to issue a return document within one day, allowing our compatriots to reach Armenia,” Aleksanyan noted.
Regarding foreigners, certain documents are required, or they must at least reach the Armenian state border.
