Defense Ministry Official Embezzles Fuel Allocated to Military Unit
The acting head of the fuel and lubricants service of the N military unit of the Republic of Armenia’s Ministry of Defense has embezzled 236,169 drams worth of diesel fuel. The information was reported by the prosecutor’s office, which added that a fine has been imposed on him amounting to 800,000 drams, equivalent to 800 times the minimum wage.
It has been established that S.T., the acting head of the fuel and lubricants service of the N military unit, received 80,000 drams from armed group shooter A.G. To repay this debt, it was agreed that the diesel fuel would be sold at a rate of 400 drams per liter.
S.T. instructed private G.A. to take 480 liters of the 5,065 liters of fuel entrusted to him from a Ministry of Defense vehicle at an abandoned gas station located in the administrative territory of Noratus and hand it over to armed group shooter A.G.
As a result of the incident, S.T. has been charged under Article 179, Part 2, Point 1 of the Criminal Code of Armenia, which pertains to embezzling significant amounts using his official position. A.G. has been charged under Article 38-179, Part 2, Point 1 of the Criminal Code for facilitating significant embezzlement using an official position. No charges have been filed against the private soldier.
A.G. has been sentenced to community service for a duration of 200 hours. The supervising prosecutor has requested the Ministry of Defense to consider the advisability of continuing the service of these soldiers.
