Martuni Medical Center Clarifies Circumstances Surrounding 17-Year-Old Girl's Death

The Martuni Medical Center has released a statement regarding the circumstances of the death of a high school student, noting that the girl was transferred to their facility in an already critical condition.

According to the Medical Center's announcement, upon being taken to the operating room, cardiac arrest was recorded, followed by resuscitation efforts and a complex surgery lasting 5 hours; however, the girl's life could not be saved.

The clarification states the following: "On January 5 of this year, information was published in mass media regarding the circumstances of the 17-year-old resident of the Vardenis community, diagnosed with 'acute abdomen, hollow organ perforation', who was transferred to the Martuni Medical Center. This garnered significant public response, so we find it necessary to clarify the actual events within permissible limits.

On January 2 at approximately 03:30, the citizen was transferred by an ambulance from the Vardenis Medical Center to the Martuni Medical Center in a critically shock state. They were immediately taken to the operating room, where cardiac arrest was recorded three minutes later. Resuscitation efforts were initiated immediately, which succeeded in restoring the heart rhythm and performing surgery.

The surgery lasted about 5 hours, during which the patient's condition was extremely severe, with various dysrhythmias and episodes of cardiac arrest. Medical interventions were conducted according to procedural protocols; however, multi-organ failure was already observed during the operation, which resulted in another cardiac arrest shortly after the surgery. Appropriate resuscitation measures were performed; unfortunately, the patient's life could not be saved.

We officially report that the medical center has never provided information indicating that the cause of death of the 11th-grade student was sudden death. Furthermore, we find it necessary to inform you that a criminal investigation has not been initiated by the Investigative Department of the Gegharkunik Province regarding the characteristics of a homicide in connection with this incident."

It is noteworthy that on January 2, around 09:50, the Martuni Police Department received a call indicating that a young girl had been admitted with the diagnosis of 'acute abdominal hollow organ perforation.' She was 17-year-old Nazik Kh., a resident of the village of Arpunk in Gegharkunik Province, and she died in the surgical department of the hospital.
