The Date of Queen Elizabeth II's Funeral is Known

Queen Elizabeth II's funeral will take place on Monday, September 19. This was announced in a statement released by Buckingham Palace.

“The state funeral of Her Majesty the Queen will take place at Westminster Abbey on Monday, September 19, at 11:00 AM British time,” the document states.

The day of the funeral will be a public holiday. Before the burial of Elizabeth II, the coffin will be displayed for four days in the lobby of the British Parliament, allowing fans to say their goodbyes.

At this time, the late monarch's body is located at Balmoral Castle in Scotland, where she passed away. Every year, she spent the last month of summer and the first weeks of September in Scotland.

According to the royal press service, the royal coffin will make a 170-kilometer journey from Balmoral in Aberdeenshire to the Palace of Holyroodhouse in Edinburgh on Sunday. The following day, the funeral procession will continue along the Royal Mile through the central streets of Scotland’s capital to St. Giles' Cathedral, where a church service will be conducted by His Majesty King Charles III.

Members of the royal family will spend the night beside the coffin under a mourning vigil known as the Princes' Vigil.

The deceased will be displayed for one day at the main cathedral of the Scottish Presbyterian Church to allow the residents of Edinburgh to bid farewell to the late monarch. Currently, flowers and cards of gratitude for the Queen's 70 years of service are being brought to Buckingham Palace and Balmoral, but those wishing to pay their respects to Her Majesty are prohibited from entering the castle itself.
