Cholera Outbreak in Syria Causes Deaths
A cholera outbreak in various regions of Syria has resulted in the deaths of three individuals, authorities have reported.
The Kurdish Autonomous Administration, which is not recognized by Damascus, announced the fatalities of three patients suffering from cholera in Raqqa and Deir ez-Zor provinces. The administration's health department has called on international organizations to assist the region in combating cholera, according to reports from Rudaw.
In turn, Syria's Ministry of Health has confirmed 15 cases of cholera in Aleppo province. The first case involved a nine-year-old child who has since been discharged after receiving medical care.
During inspections, cholera samples were discovered in wastewater and in an ice plant, which was immediately shut down following the findings, as reported by SANA.
This outbreak is the first of its kind in many years.
