Four Schools in Armenia Teach Azerbaijani, Nine Teach Turkish
As of September 9, 2022, the process of teaching regional languages has started in 23 schools across Armenia. This information was provided by the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports of the Republic of Armenia in response to a request from Sputnik Armenia.
According to the presented data, out of the 23 schools, 7 teach Persian, 3 teach Georgian, 9 teach Turkish, and 4 teach Azerbaijani.
The Ministry also mentioned that these languages are taught either in a group format, as a third foreign language, or in both formats simultaneously. The issue is that the requirements for the professional qualifications of the instructors differ depending on the teaching format. In the case of group teaching, it is necessary for the instructor to have higher professional education, while for teaching the third foreign language, the requirements established by Article 26 of the Law on General Education for teachers of general education institutions apply (which include pedagogical qualifications, work experience, retraining, certification, etc.).
When asked how well Armenia is supplied with the necessary specialists, the Ministry stated that they receive numerous letters and calls from specialists who express a desire to teach a regional language within the program. These specialists are provided with a list of institutions ready to conduct education in regional languages, and the number of such institutions is 400.
