Proposal to Provide 2,000,000 Drams: Investigative Committee on Avetik Chalabyan's Detention
The Investigative Committee of Armenia has uncovered several details in a criminal case being examined by the Yerevan investigative department concerning serious crimes. This case involves the alleged bribery of the student council president of the National Agrarian University of Armenia in exchange for the participation of students in opposition rallies.
Previously, it was reported that on May 9, 2022, a recording was published on one of the news websites, which stated: “1000 drams for each student. The Agrarian University’s administration is encouraging the student council president to organize this in exchange for money so that students can participate in opposition rallies, offering 1000 drams per student.”
The investigation has revealed that individuals accused of committing the alleged crime offered the student council president a financial incentive of 2,000,000 drams for the involvement of 2,000 students in the opposition rallies and the execution of specific actions.
Based on the combination of sufficient evidence, two individuals have been charged under the second part of Article 163 of the Armenian Criminal Code, with Avetik Chalabyan being placed in custody as a preventive measure. The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
