Two Dozen NGOs Respond to Lukashenko's Statement
Around two dozen NGOs have issued a statement regarding the interview of Belarusian President A. Lukashenko.
The statement reads:
“In an interview given to Vladimir Solovyov on February 7, 2022, during the 'Solovyev Live' program, Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko stated: 'Well, Armenia has nowhere to go. Do you think they need someone? They saw that. Nikol Vovaevich saw that. Azerbaijan is somehow getting out of that group because we have also made many mistakes. It’s a separate topic. Turkey, of course, provides serious support to Azerbaijan. Gas and oil are going through Turkey. And Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, and Tajikistan, I believe, driven by necessity (first of all, economic), will also join.'”
Clearly, Lukashenko’s statement aligns with the recurring assertions by enemies of Armenia’s sovereignty, as well as some political forces and figures within Armenia, which promote explicit claims within the context of restoring the Russian or Soviet Empire and its former colonies.
We, the undersigned organizations, evaluate Lukashenko’s statement as a component of the overt campaign against Armenia’s sovereignty. Considering that the Republic of Armenia has no future within any alliance of anti-democratic regimes, we demand from the Armenian authorities to now and henceforth deliver unequivocal, clear, firm, public, and diplomatic responses against any verbal and written statements and all actions threatening the independence and sovereignty of the Republic of Armenia.
The authorities of the Republic of Armenia hold a primary obligation to make the necessary and adequate efforts to ensure that no political or state figure, either in Armenia or abroad, dares to allow such encroachments against our country and people.
