Criminal Case Initiated Following the Murder of a Resident of Artsakh
On November 8, 2021, around 3:00 PM, an unidentified soldier of the Armed Forces of the Republic of Azerbaijan opened fire on individuals repairing a water pipe in the area known as "under Shushi" along the Shushi-Lachin highway, which had come under the control of the Armed Forces of Azerbaijan. The attack was aimed at terrorizing the population of Artsakh and creating an atmosphere of fear and horror, driven by motives of national and religious hatred, with direct intent to unlawfully deprive the lives of two or more individuals.
As a result of the shooting, Martik Yeremyan, a resident of Stepanakert born in 1998, sustained a gunshot wound to the head and died at the scene. Gevorg Melkumyan, Gagik Ghazaryan, and Armen Sargsyan were also injured by gunfire.
The Artsakh Investigative Committee has reported this incident. It has been noted that a group of investigators led by the head of the Artsakh Investigative Committee's regional division, Masis Ter-Tarkhanyan, has been dispatched to the scene.
Based on the circumstances of the incident, a criminal case has been initiated under Article 103, Part 2, Points 1, 9, and 14, as well as Article 225, Part 2, Point 2 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Artsakh. The investigation has been entrusted to the investigative group, which is currently carrying out urgent procedural and investigative actions to clarify all circumstances of the case.
