Livestock Killed by Landmines in Nerkin Hand
On Friday afternoon, animals exploded on landmines in the border village of Nerkin Hand in the Syunik region. This was reported to Aravot.am by Khachik Baghdasaryan, the administrative head of Nerkin Hand.
"My cows and those of village resident Hamlet Harutyunyan were harmed. In total, there were 7 animals, 4 of which were hidden in the bushes and not visible. Three livestock were amputated and found lying in the same area," Baghdasaryan said.
According to him, this area is directly opposite an Armenian military position and has been mined by the Armenian side for security reasons. "I do not think it was intentional; the animals wandered there on their own," Baghdasaryan noted.
This is not the first time livestock has been harmed due to mine explosions. "In the same area months ago, two pigs and one cow were blown up," the administrative head added, stating that they have appealed to the Syunik regional administration for compensation.
