VIDEO: Why Did Alen Simonyan Visit Cyprus? A Protest is Anticipated
This visit is an official one from the Armenian Parliament to Cyprus, but it is unfortunate that the opposition of the Armenian Parliament is not only excluded from this delegation but was even unaware that such a delegation would arrive in Cyprus. This is a significant violation in both political and legal terms.
Hakob Manukyan, a Cypriot-Armenian, mentioned this in an interview with "Hraparak," referring to the video circulating online that shows how Cypriot Armenians are "welcoming" the National Assembly President Alen Simonyan. During his arrival, shouts of "Traitors!", "Armenians!", "We don't want to see you here!" and other slogans were heard as Alen Simonyan stepped out of the car.
The program of the visit has been kept entirely secret, which is why the small protest that took place yesterday was organized at the last minute. Today, the Cyprus committee of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (ARF) is organizing a significant protest against the delegation. I should note that there could also be other forms of actions and protests. As far as I know, henceforth, delegations arriving from Armenia, especially from the ruling party, will be similarly greeted in all diaspora communities,” Manukyan stated.
