33-Year-Old Man Arrested on Suspicion of Killing Ex-Wife

At 09:20 on August 21, 2021, a 33-year-old resident of Yerevan voluntarily presented himself at the Shengavit Police Department and reported that he had inflicted bodily harm on his ex-wife with a household knife in the entrance of a building. On the same day at 09:25, a report was received about a woman lying near the entrance of a building on Artashisyan Street.

A detective-operational group immediately arrived at the scene and discovered the body of the woman in the stairwell of the building, which had numerous stab wounds in the left side of the chest, left shoulder, throat, lower lip, and oral cavity. As a result of urgent measures taken, it was established that the woman mentioned in the man's statement and the one found in the entrance were indeed the same person — a resident of Yerevan born in 1987.

A criminal case has been initiated in the Shengavit Investigative Division of the Investigative Committee of the Republic of Armenia for the crime defined in part 1 of article 104 of the Criminal Code of Armenia. Investigative actions and operational-search measures have identified several circumstances surrounding the woman receiving fatal bodily injuries.

According to preliminary data, on the day of the incident at around 08:30, the 33-year-old man, who had previously faced domestic issues, intended to kill his ex-wife. Taking a household knife with him, he went to her residence, waited at the entrance, and when the woman exited her apartment, he assaulted her with multiple strikes to various parts of her body. As a result of the injuries, the woman lost consciousness and died.

During the pre-investigation stage, urgent investigative and procedural actions were carried out, including an examination of the crime scene, where blood-like traces were discovered, and samples were taken. A household knife with blood-like traces was found during the man’s personal search. To clarify significant circumstances of the criminal case, forensic medical, forensic fingerprint, and forensic biological examinations have been assigned, and several individuals have been interrogated.

The 33-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of killing his ex-wife and has confessed during the interrogation. Measures are being taken to clarify all circumstances of the case and to ensure an objective and comprehensive investigation, validating the details pointed out in the testimonies.
