Israel Halts Humanitarian Aid Supply to Gaza Strip

The supply of humanitarian aid from Jordan to the Gaza Strip has been halted due to shelling by Hamas on the Kerem Shalom crossing. This was reported by the Israeli Defense Forces unit COGAT on their Twitter page, according to the RIA Novosti agency.

“Hamas fired 3 mortar shells at the Kerem Shalom crossing while humanitarian aid was waiting to cross into Gaza. As a result, the planned aid shipment has been suspended,” the statement said.

It was noted that this incident marks the second occurrence in the last 24 hours. The day before, the transfer of humanitarian aid had been suspended due to shelling, during which one Israeli soldier sustained minor injuries.

In the clashes that began last week between Palestinians and Israelis, the number of casualties on the Palestinian side has surpassed 220, including 63 children and more than 34 women, with nearly 1500 Palestinians injured. The Israeli side reports 12 deaths, including 2 children, with at least 300 injured.

Unrest in Jerusalem began on May 7. Clashes between Arab youths and police erupted on the evening of May 8, which then spread to the Temple Mount and Al-Aqsa Mosque area. It peaked on May 10, the day Jews commemorate Jerusalem Day. The Israeli army has stated that it has eliminated key figures in Hamas intelligence, including the head of Hamas's military intelligence security department and his deputy.

Despite the escalating situation, diplomatic efforts to establish a ceasefire between Israel and the Gaza-ruling Hamas movement have failed to make progress for the tenth day in a row.
