Stepanakert Airport Ready for Operation, But...
Stepanakert airport is ready, but no decision has been made regarding its operation. The information was provided to Sputnik Armenia by Vitaly Balasanyan, Secretary of the Security Council of Artsakh.
“Stepanakert airport is now technically equipped and ready for operation. Negotiations are being conducted by the Russian peacekeeping forces. The clear goal is set for humanitarian cargoes to land at Stepanakert airport,” said Balasanyan.
So far, no decision has been made regarding operation.
In turn, Artsakh's Foreign Minister Davit Babayan told Sputnik Armenia that the operation of the airport remains one of the key issues. “I believe that time is needed for that,” Babayan noted.
The minister does not rule out that in the future it may be possible to use the airport for passenger flights, but “work needs to be done in that direction.”
It is reminded that at the end of 2020, information emerged that the Stepanakert airport would soon begin operation. It should be noted that the Stepanakert airport had already been renovated and was ready to accept planes in 2012. However, this did not happen due to the backlash from Baku.
