Toghuhi Tovmasyan Provides Details on Border Situation in Gegharkunik Province
The Republic of Armenia's National Assembly member Toghuhi Tovmasyan has provided details regarding the border situation in Gegharkunik Province based on a conversation with the commander of the army corps. The deputy made a post on her Facebook page.
“Dear compatriots, dear residents of Gegharkunik Province. The information circulating that the Azerbaijani armed forces have made advances in the area of Shorja in the Vardenis region has caused me great concern. I have been verifying these reports. Just a moment ago, I also spoke with our army corps commander. I want to convey his words that the Azerbaijani armed forces have not made any encroachments against the state border of Armenia in the Gegharkunik Province area, nor have they exhibited any aggression along our province,” she stated.
“So what has happened? After the signing of the fateful document on November 9-10, when Karvachar was handed over, the Azerbaijani armed forces positioned themselves in those areas to the extent possible due to the heavy snowfall. Now that the snow has melted, they are advancing in the areas they have taken control of and are positioning themselves closer to us. The general specifically emphasized that they have not moved even a millimeter in front of the state border of Armenia, nor can they. In short, there is currently no cause for concern regarding Gegharkunik Province. I trust the commander’s words, as during the 44-day war, this army corps fought heroically, having not retreated even a meter, and on the contrary, we gained positional advantages during the days of war. We handed over Karvachar and the surrounding territories without a single shot fired, with deep sorrow in our hearts,” she wrote.
