Part of the Republican Party Rushes to Join Kocharyan, Now Returning
The newspaper "Hraparak" reports that the competition between Robert Kocharyan's "Armenia" bloc and the Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) led by Vahagn Vardanyan's "Honorary Title" is intensifying. Although it was reported weeks ago that former Minister of Justice Davit Harutyunyan was involved in Kocharyan's campaign headquarters as the person responsible for legal matters, it was revealed yesterday that he will actually lead the campaign headquarters for "Honorary Title."
Sergio Sargsyan managed to bring him back; incidentally, the third president personally oversees the work of the headquarters. Former head of the Audit Chamber Ishkhan Zakaryan will be involved in the headquarters on behalf of the "Fatherland" bloc, while Vahram Baghdasaryan will coordinate the work of regional responsible persons.
We have information that Vardanyan's bloc is organizing the elections based on the principle of former Soviet districts, with headquarters opening in each and a person designated as responsible. Currently, both teams are accounting for available resources and compiling lists of working teams and trusted individuals.
The problem is that many members from the Republican Party, thinking that the RPA wouldn't participate in the elections, rushed to join Robert Kocharyan's team to prevent Nikol's reelection, but now some of them are returning to the mother party.
