Geghetzi Party Boycotting National Assembly Sessions but Not Refusing Official Trips
The delegation headed by Ararat Mirzoyan will be on an official visit to Moscow from May 16 to 18. This visit was scheduled a month ago, on April 13, but official Moscow refused to receive them, reportedly for political reasons. The Russian authorities were angered by the staging of false news regarding prisoners following Prime Minister Pashinyan’s visit to Moscow, claiming that prisoners were being brought back, to which Muradov had to respond. They communicated to the Armenian National Assembly that the schedule of the State Duma Speaker was busy, and he would receive them when free.
The visit will now take place because the Russian authorities have decided not to loosen their control over Pashinyan's government before the elections, taking into account Aliyev's recent aggressive statements about the Zangezur Corridor and Western interests. It is noteworthy that the behavior of the Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) is unusual; not only will a representative of the previous ruling party, the LHK, accompany the official delegation, but BHK member Mikael Melkumyan will also be part of it. It is strange that the BHK is boycotting the sessions of the National Assembly while not refusing official trips,” writes the newspaper.
