Lithuania Expresses Concern Over the Process of Returning Prisoners of War
During the official visit to the Republic of Lithuania, a delegation led by the President of the National Assembly of Armenia, Ararat Mirzoyan, met with the President of the Lithuanian Seimas, Viktorija Čmilytė-Nielsen, and Lithuanian parliamentarians.
This year marks the 30th anniversary of the establishment of relations between Armenia and Lithuania, and the Speaker of the Lithuanian Parliament expressed great pleasure in hosting the Armenian delegation.
Thanking for the invitation, Ararat Mirzoyan noted that the two countries have a broad dialogue based on democratic values.
The Speaker of the Armenian Parliament highly appreciated Lithuania's support for Armenia in the fight against the pandemic and expressed gratitude to the Lithuanian side for recognizing the Armenian Genocide, as well as for the high-level participation of Lithuania in the memorial ceremonies for the victims of the Armenian Genocide this year.
Addressing the current situation around Nagorno-Karabakh, Ararat Mirzoyan noted that Azerbaijan continues to grossly violate the trilateral statement of November 9 by refusing to return Armenian prisoners of war and other detained individuals. In addition, the Azerbaijani authorities continue their policy of hatred towards Armenians, which once again proves that the people of Artsakh cannot live safely within that country.
The President of the Seimas mentioned that Lithuania continues to express concern over both the process of returning prisoners of war and the attacks on Armenian cultural heritage by Azerbaijan.
During the meeting, the parties discussed a number of mutually interesting issues, including Ararat Mirzoyan informing his counterparts about the upcoming snap parliamentary elections in Armenia and inviting them to conduct an observation mission during that period.
