French Military Warn Macron About Civil War
The French magazine Valeurs actuelles has published a letter from French military personnel defending retired generals in an open letter to the country's authorities. The authors of the letter, whose names are not disclosed, condemned the response of the French authorities to the retired generals’ letter, which warned of the threat of civil war connected to Islamists and gangs.
“They have been treated as rebels, when their only fault is their love for their country. We see violence in our cities and villages. We see that hatred towards France and its history is becoming commonplace,” the letter states.
“Act! This is about the survival of our country and yours,” they urged.
The first letter, signed by 20 retired generals, was published in April. The letter speaks of a threat of civil war that could escalate into tensions and societal division. The Chief of Staff of the French Armed Forces, General François Lecointre, stated in an interview with Le Parisien that sanctions would be applied against the authors of the open letter.
