Dry Grass Ignited, Unable to Escape: Details of the Tragic Incident in Voskewaz

In Voskewaz village of Aragatsotn province, an elderly woman perished today, April 7, after failing to escape while burning dry grass. The village head, Hayk Hovhannisyan, reported this to NEWS.am.

"She was living with her son's family—her daughter's house is just one home away. The fire occurred on her daughter's property where she was burning dry grass. Her daughter is in Russia. It was dry grass, it caught fire, and she was ailing; she couldn't escape," the mayor recounted.

Earlier, the Ministry of Emergency Situations reported that an elderly citizen was burned in a fire that broke out in a garden adjacent to one of the houses in Voskewaz. The ministry mentioned that they received a call about the fire at 16:09. The fire self-extinguished, having consumed approximately 1000 square meters of grass cover, and some grapevines were scorched.

Rescuers approached the burned body of H. K. (born in 1937) and brought it to an ambulance.
