Mayor of Meghri Warned Internally to Avoid Goris-Kapan Road and Reach Meghri via Tatev

Traveling through Syunik province is dangerous despite government assurances, especially the section of the Goris-Kapan road deemed to be 'part of Azerbaijani territory,' which is under Azerbaijani control. It seems that Armenian authorities consider the Syunik region safe, perhaps because there is no direct threat posed to them by Azerbaijanis. Instead, the danger comes to the enemies of the Armenian authorities from our adversary.

We have been informed that certain community leaders with opposition views in Syunik province, including the Mayor of Meghri, Mkhitar Zakaryan, have been warned internally to avoid the Goris-Kapan road and to reach Meghri via an alternative route through Tatev. This advisory comes amid concerns that Azerbaijanis might stop their vehicle under the potential guidance of Armenian authorities and abduct or harm them. They have been advised that if they cannot change their route, at least they should change their vehicle so it would not be identifiable.

It is worth noting that just days before, Mkhitar Zakaryan hinted at such dangers in a conversation, stating: 'To be honest, I feel more danger... I might be a bit paranoid, but when we started demanding the Prime Minister's resignation, we understood that we could be targeted from here.'
