Video: Series of Murders Revealed
On March 10, the police department of Kapan received a phone call from the Central Department reporting that a 37-year-old man registered in Kajaran had gone missing near the 'Gortsaranayin' metro station. The information was provided to the Kapan police by the missing man’s sister, who indicated that her brother had disappeared around 8 PM on March 7.
In order to locate the man and clarify the circumstances of his disappearance, officers from the Criminal Investigation Division of the Yerevan city police conducted extensive operational measures, to which the criminal investigators of the Central Department also joined. As a result of days of joint efforts, several circumstances of the incident became known.
This was reported by the Police of the Republic of Armenia: "In particular, it was established that a dispute had arisen between the missing man and a 30-year-old man registered in the city of Hrazdan but residing in the capital at the intersection of Zakyan and Grigor Lousavorich streets. The friend of the 30-year-old man intervened in the situation. According to preliminary data known to the investigation, he pursued the missing man and stabbed him several times with a knife. Later, according to the operational data obtained, they threw the body of the deceased into the Hrazdan River. It became known to the criminal investigators that they had also thrown the man's body into the river with the help of two more friends.
This means that there were already four individuals in the view of the police officers. A criminal case was initiated in the investigative department of the Yerevan city police regarding the incident, which was sent to the investigative divisions of the Central and Norq-Marash administrative regions. The individuals suspected of committing a particularly serious crime and their friends were identified, taken to the police, and subsequently presented to the investigative body for interrogation.
In addition to substantiating the aforementioned circumstances, the law enforcement’s task was to locate the body of the murdered man. During the search operations, alongside the operational-investigative measures and investigative actions, it was revealed that when they attempted to move the deceased’s body, an unknown person had witnessed the event. The 34-year-old man among them reportedly attacked the witness with an axe, who also died.
The body of the second murder victim was also thrown into the Hrazdan River. In addition to the aforementioned four men, another acquaintance, who was also identified, was detained and arrested.
Officers from the police, investigative committee, and emergency situations ministry completely engaged in the operations to discover the bodies of the murdered men. After days of joint work, on March 22, the body of the witness was discovered in the Yerevan Lake. The search operations continued.
Two days later, on March 24, the body of the missing man was discovered in a canal near Arshakunyats Avenue. Meanwhile, among the belongings of one of the detained individuals, the knife used in the crime was found. Within the framework of the initiated criminal cases, a group of individuals have been charged and they have been arrested. The investigation will clarify the role of each person in the committed murders," the statement reads.
