Video: Case of Bribery by Correctional Facility Officer Revealed

The National Security Service of Armenia has reported that as a result of operational-investigative measures, it was established that A. H., holding the position of lead specialist in the security department of the Armavir penitentiary of the Ministry of Justice of Armenia, and possessing the special rank of justice major, was continuously performing the functions of a representative of authority. He accepted an offer for a bribe from an inmate of the Armavir penitentiary in exchange for illegal actions.

In particular, A. H., among other responsibilities, had the authority to control the searches of individuals, packages, parcels, and personal belongings. In March 2021, he accepted a proposal from inmate A. N. for an obvious illegal act, agreeing to bring prohibited items into the penitentiary and hand them over to A. N., with the arrangement that A. N.'s son would deliver the bribe money and the prohibited items to him.

On March 18, 2021, around 8:30 PM, A. H. received the bribe money and the prohibited items from A. N.'s son at his residence in Yerevan. He was subsequently caught by employees of the National Security Service and arrested. During the personal search, the prohibited items were discovered on A. H., and the bribe money was found during a search conducted at his home.

The National Security Service of Armenia reiterates its call to refrain from corrupt practices and warns that it fully monitors the operational situation and will apply all measures authorized by law to uncover corrupt phenomena in various spheres of public service and initiate criminal prosecutions against those involved.
