Video: Gunshots Heard on Yerevan-Sevan Highway
On the night of March 12, an individual who called the Kotayk police requested that officers approach the checkpoint located at the beginning of the Yerevan-Sevan highway. The operational group of the police department responded quickly to the alert, and traffic officers serving the region determined that gunshots had been heard in front of a restaurant on the right side of the road.
Investigators and forensic experts also arrived at the scene. During the inspection of the area, fired cartridges from a submachine gun were discovered. A criminal case was initiated regarding the incident. Through intelligence-gathering operations conducted at the scene, Kotayk police determined that a birthday celebration was taking place at the restaurant, and one of the attendees had fired the submachine gun.
According to reports, there had been an unpleasant conversation between this individual and other attendees before the gunshots. Soon, the identity of the suspect became known. The 31-year-old man was located by the criminal investigators of the Kotayk police and the operational actions of the regional traffic police approximately half an hour after the alert, specifically in the Kotayk region. The man, who resides in the village of Solak, was transported to the station by vehicle.
An alcohol test confirmed that he was under the influence. Additionally, a Kalashnikov submachine gun without a factory number, along with ammunition and 44 cartridges of 5.45 mm caliber, were found in the trunk of a Mercedes, which is inherently illegal. The weapons and ammunition were confiscated, and the 31-year-old man was arrested. The circumstances of the incident are under investigation.
