If Russia's strength is lacking, we must assist. Hovhannes Igityan
“The question is not what Armenian officials should do, it seems to me that Russia should have a significant role here, as with its capabilities and the presence of peacekeeping forces in Artsakh, I believe that Russia can be stricter, because a signature under a statement is not just a signature, but also a certain obligation,” said Hovhannes Igityan, a member of the ‘My Step’ faction, during a conversation with reporters in the National Assembly.
In response to journalists’ remarks about why Azerbaijan is delaying and not fully implementing point 8 of the statement, Igityan noted, “There can be several opinions here. Besides the political stance towards Armenians, which seems to have not changed in Azerbaijan, there is also the fact that Azerbaijan has seen the discontent arising in Armenia and is trying to use this circumstance to influence Armenia's internal politics. And seeing that opposition figures put the entire blame for not returning prisoners of war on Armenian officials, I think Azerbaijan is trying to exploit this situation.”
Igityan emphasized that if Russia's strength is lacking, we must assist Russia: “I know that the Armenian authorities are working in this direction.”
