Biden to Halt Border Wall Construction with Mexico

Joseph Biden, who will assume the presidency of the United States on January 20, will immediately order the cessation of border wall construction with Mexico right after taking office. This was reported on the website of the Democratic transition team.

“In his announcement today, President-elect Biden will indicate the immediate termination of the state of emergency, which has been used as a pretext to redirect funds from other allocations to justify the financing of the wall’s construction,” the statement reads.

The announcement will include directives to halt the border wall construction projects immediately, so that there can be a thorough analysis of the legality of the methods used in funding and contractor selection, as well as determining the best practices for reallocating funds designated for wall construction by the previous administration.

Biden also intends to sign a series of other documents on January 20 that will ease U.S. immigration policies. These include reinstating the deportation deferment for young people who were brought to the U.S. as children, a program established during Barack Obama’s presidency but canceled during Trump’s term. Biden will also sign an executive order lifting restrictions on the entry of representatives from several Arab and African countries imposed by Trump, as reported by TASS.
