Video: Young Man Who Injured People with Iron Chain in Supermarket Detained
The Investigation Committee of Armenia has initiated a criminal case regarding a robbery charge involving a weapon against a supermarket employee. One individual has been arrested.
According to preliminary reports, on January 29, 2020, at approximately 14:05, a 25-year-old cashier at a supermarket in Yerevan reported to the police that an unknown individual had entered the store with the intent to commit robbery. Armed with an iron chain, the assailant attacked the cashiers, striking one of them on the head while demanding money. He then attempted to steal cash from the register.
However, a 31-year-old manager at the supermarket, witnessing the crime in action, subdued the attacker, who was caught in the act of committing an unlawful act. Following this, the assailant was taken into custody by officers from the Nor-Nork police department.
The Investigation Committee's Yerevan city investigative department has opened a criminal case under Article 175, Part 2, Clause 4 of the Armenian Penal Code. During the pre-trial investigation, several investigative actions were carried out, including an on-site examination, witness interrogations, and the seizure of surveillance video footage from the store, as well as the iron chain used in the crime.
The identity of the person who allegedly committed the crime has been established; he is a resident of Yerevan, born in 1998. He has been detained and has provided a confession regarding the robbery of the supermarket employee.
The legal entity operating the supermarket and its cashier have been recognized as victims in this case. Necessary measures are being taken to ensure an objective, complete, and comprehensive investigation of the circumstances surrounding the incident.
The pre-trial investigation is ongoing.
