Prisoner at Abovyan Penitentiary Attempted Escape

During a search conducted on September 27 in one of the cells housing prisoners at the Abovyan penitentiary of the Republic of Armenia, it was revealed that inmate I. H. had attempted to escape. For nearly a month, he used a chisel to undermine the concrete layer securing the stone next to the cell window, thereby weakening the bars. However, due to circumstances beyond his control, the inmate was unable to complete the crime.

A criminal case has been initiated under Article 34-355, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code regarding this incident.

It is worth noting that another escape attempt at the Abovyan penitentiary was thwarted on August 26 this year. Following that incident, a criminal case was initiated on September 13 under Article 34-355, Part 2 of the RA Criminal Code. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
