Mass Deportations and Loss of Citizenship from Russia: Volodin Details
The State Duma of the Russian Federation is taking steps to tighten migration legislation. The lower house of parliament has approved in the first reading legislative changes that allow for the deportation of foreign citizens who have committed administrative offenses.
The new regulations primarily pertain to violations of public cohabitation and behavioral norms. According to Vyacheslav Volodin, Chairman of the State Duma, this legislative initiative is necessitated by the need to ensure public safety and address existing discontent in society.
According to official statements, labor migrants must understand that any violation will result not only in administrative liability but also in their removal from the country.
Additionally, Russian lawmakers have agreed on another restriction regarding the granting of residence status and citizenship. Henceforth, foreigners with unexpunged or unwithdrawn criminal convictions will be denied Russian citizenship or the process of obtaining a residence permit.
The proposed changes aim to strengthen control over the legal presence of foreigners in Russia, their employment, and their income. This will help to prevent possible issues related to illegal migration.
