Scandal Between Armenia and Russia: Tough Response from Yerevan Following Overchuk's Statement
The issue of Armenia leaving the EAEU cannot be discussed as long as Armenia has not submitted such a request or intention, and we have not expressed such an intention; therefore, the matter of our departure cannot be discussed,
said Armenia's Minister of Foreign Affairs Ararat Mirzoyan in an interview with Aysor.am while referring to Overchuk's statement.
To the question of when Armenia will make a decision, Mirzoyan responded, “When there is a need to discuss the issue. I cannot provide any timeframe; this issue is not on our agenda today.”
In response to the observation that is it possible for Armenia’s membership in the EAEU to be frozen until Armenia makes a decision, Mirzoyan replied, “That cannot happen. This is an organization that is decided by consensus votes of Armenia; how could such a thing occur?”
It is noteworthy that yesterday, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexei Overchuk stated that Armenia is faced with a choice between the EAEU and the EU.
