Council Majority Boycotts Proposal to Rename Amiryan Street

Council Majority Boycotts Proposal to Rename Amiryan Street

During the city council meeting held on April 21, Mayor Tigran Avinyan announced that around ten out of the 51 agenda items would be removed from discussion. Meanwhile, several other projects received negative conclusions from the committees. The 'Republic' faction expressed support for removing two proposals related to naming several streets in the capital from the agenda. The rationale behind this decision was that such resolutions should be предварительно согласованы with all factions of the council, and it was noted that there was a complete lack of public discussions.

According to the mayor, the remaining 38 items on the agenda were approved through a council vote. When a draft decision regarding the renaming was put to vote, the majority of the council opted to boycott the process.

The next city council meeting is scheduled for May 7 at 10:00 AM. The choice of this date is due to the fact that many council members are included in the lists for parliamentary elections and, according to the law, cannot participate in meetings at a later date.

It should be noted that we previously reported that the agenda of the Yerevan city council includes a proposal to rename Amiryan Street after King Pap.
