Restrictions on Social Media Access for Children Under 16 in Armenia
In Armenia, the issue of restricting access to social media for children under 16 is being discussed with the participation of several government agencies. During a press conference held at the Armenian press office, Tamara Sargsyan, head of the Department of General Education at the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, informed that the Ministries of Education, Labor and Social Affairs, as well as High-Tech Industry are involved in this process.
"A study is being conducted to identify all the main possibilities, risks, and issues. After having a complete picture, it will be possible to understand what regulations are needed and how to apply them accurately and specifically. Accordingly, we will know which websites will be restricted. The topic is sensitive, and there are many layers to the questions raised. We have raised questions about how feasible it will be to identify the equipment with the child. It is important that we are confident that we are monitoring this decision," said Tamara Sargsyan.
The ministry representative noted that there are existing issues in the field that need to be addressed. The digital protection of children is viewed as a priority, and the state must be confident that adequate tools and regulations are in place to protect them in the digital environment.
