Zelensky is Heading to Berlin
The President of Ukraine, Vladimir Zelensky, is heading to Berlin to meet with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz and participate in government consultations.
Ukrainian government sources informed Euronews that President Zelensky will be on a state visit to Germany on Tuesday, where he will be received by Chancellor Merz. On the same day, German-Ukrainian government consultations will take place in Berlin, although the agenda of the topics to be discussed has not yet been made public.
Prior to this visit, during an exhibition of Ukrainian weapons, Zelensky noted that he would soon discuss the creation of a joint air defense system with European leaders. “I am confident that Ukraine will become a central component of the European security system,” said the Ukrainian leader. “The alternative is clear: otherwise, some European countries risk becoming part of Russia’s sphere of influence.”
During the visit, Germany's Minister of Defense Boris Pistorius will meet with his Ukrainian counterpart Mykhailo Fedorov. On Wednesday, they will also be joined by the UK Secretary of State for Defence, Jon Healey, and NATO Secretary General Mark NATO.
Notably, in April 2025, Germany and the United Kingdom will co-chair a contact group on Ukraine. Other representatives will participate in the discussions in a digital format, while a joint press conference of the defense ministers is anticipated in Berlin.
