Peter Madyar Plans to Initiate Dialogue with Moscow

Peter Madyar, the leader of the "Tisa" opposition party, which won the parliamentary elections in Hungary, has expressed his intention to hold official negotiations with Russian President Vladimir Putin. The political figure announced this during a meeting with his supporters, discussing the future directions of the country's foreign policy.

Madyar clarified that the dialogue with Moscow is driven by geographical realities and economic factors. He emphasized that neither Hungary's nor Russia's position on the map will change, hence the need for both parties to sit down at the negotiating table. To justify his stance, the politician pointed to Hungary's significant dependence on Russian energy resources.

To remind, according to preliminary results from the April 12 elections, with 98.93% of the votes processed, the "Tisa" party secured 53.07% of the votes, allowing it to occupy 138 seats in the 199-member parliament. The party led by Viktor Orbán, "Fidesz", gathered 38.43% of the votes, obtaining 55 mandates. Thus, a significant shift in the balance of power has occurred in Hungary, which could impact the future diplomatic course of official Budapest.
