New President of Iraq Announced

In the second round of presidential elections held in Iraq, Nizar Amidi has emerged victorious, representing the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan. He received the support of the parliamentary majority.

According to Tasnim News Agency, 249 MPs participated in the second round, which was conducted by secret ballot. Amidi's main competitor was Moussa Amin from the Kurdish Islamic Union party. With the election results, Amidi surpassed his rival and has been elected as the country's president. The electoral process took place in accordance with established procedures in the Iraqi parliament.

Earlier, outgoing President Abdul Latif Rashid announced he would not participate in the elections, allowing new candidates the opportunity to run.
