Please Read a Few Things Before Speaking: Andreasyan

The Minister of Education, Science, Culture, and Sports of Armenia, Zhanna Andreasyan, made a post on her Facebook page addressing the criticisms and proposals regarding changes in the education sector from certain opposition circles.

"I don't know how to say this so that it is understood correctly. Dear political forces, before talking about education, I ask you to at least read a few things. Familiarize yourself at least with the state program for the development of education and the existing laws. Otherwise, you end up in a situation where you boldly announce things that are already in place or are planned. For instance, representatives of one political force say that education should not only focus on knowledge but also on developing skills and teaching how to think. I am glad that you agree with us and are effectively supporting the new standards,” she stated.

“Another one says that no student should be left out of higher education due to financial problems. One defends the objectives of an education development program that has already been established by the new legislation in the sector. Most notably, I was impressed by another claim that after the ninth grade, students should either be able to go to high school to prepare for higher education or immediately pursue vocational training to enter the workforce. I hasten to inform you that these opportunities have long existed and are in operation,” Andreasyan added. “For example, this is something you could have mentioned - the adoption of the 'Law on Teacher Status,' which provides comprehensive guarantees for teachers, including a support program for housing, has already been written,” the minister concluded.
