Investigations Underway Following the Discovery of Inmate's Body in Armavir Penitentiary

A tragic incident has occurred at the Armavir penitentiary of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia. Prison staff discovered the body of an inmate hanging in quarantine cell number 1 on the first floor. According to reports from Shamshyan.com, police officers have arrived at the scene.

Information about the incident has been relayed to the Armavir regional investigative department of the Investigative Committee of Armenia.

According to a photojournalist's information, the situation in the Armavir penitentiary is quite tense. Several inmates and convicts have also declared a hunger strike.

In a conversation with us, officials stated: "Criminal proceedings have been initiated regarding the case under Article 162, Part 2, Clause 6 of the Criminal Code (leading to suicide). An inquiry is underway," they informed Auroranews.am.
