Terrorist Attack in Lviv: Name of Fallen Police Officer Confirmed
A terrorist attack involving explosions in Lviv has resulted in the death of 23-year-old police sergeant Viktoriya Shpilkan. A total of 24 individuals have been injured in the incident.
The events transpired around midnight when the police received reports of an illegal entry into a shop located in the city center. Upon arrival of the patrol unit at Danishchyna Street, the first homemade explosive device was triggered. Just a few minutes later, a second patrol unit arrived at the scene, leading to another explosion.
The prosecutor's office has initiated a criminal case under the terrorism statute due to the serious consequences of the attack. Viktoriya Shpilkan was originally from Volyn and had later lived in Kherson. She graduated from the Lviv University of Internal Affairs and joined the patrol police. Last autumn, she got married, and her husband is also a patrol police officer.
Law enforcement agencies do not rule out the possibility that the Russian special services may be behind the attack.
