Officials from Malatia-Sebastia Administrative District Accused of Accepting Bribes
The Anti-Corruption Committee of Armenia has initiated a criminal case as a result of operational and investigative measures, establishing that certain officials from the staff of the head of the Malatia-Sebastia administrative district in Yerevan accepted bribes in exchange for illegal inaction benefiting several citizens.
Specifically, the investigation revealed that one of these officials, being previously aware of illegal construction activities conducted without permission by a citizen in the same administrative district, demanded a bribe of 200,000 AMD in November 2025 to avoid recording an infringement that would incur fines of up to 2.5 million AMD.
It was also determined during the preliminary investigation that another official, aware of illegal construction work occurring at one of the addresses in the district, demanded a bribe from a resident of that address in October 2025 in order to refrain from recording the aforementioned violation.
Both officials have been charged under Article 435, Part 2, Clause 3 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia. One of them has been detained as a preventive measure. The individual who provided the bribe has been charged under Article 436, Part 2, Clause 3 of the same code. The preliminary investigation against the aforementioned individuals has been completed, and the case materials have been sent to the supervising prosecutor for approval and forwarding to court.
