When and How to Become a Beneficiary of Comprehensive Health Insurance
The Minister of Health of Armenia Anahit Avanesyan has clarified the circumstances and procedures under which a person's status as a beneficiary of comprehensive health insurance may change.
According to her, a change in salary in December 2025 cannot be a basis for altering a citizen's status within the insurance system. This means that if a person's salary in November was below 200,000 AMD and they were not included in the insurance system, but in December their income exceeds that threshold due to bonuses, their status as a non-beneficiary remains unchanged.
If the salary in January 2026 exceeds 200,000 AMD, this will be recorded in the February income tax report, leading to an obligation to pay insurance premiums in March, and after receiving payment data, the status will be activated from April 1.
Avanesyan also noted that if a citizen turns 65 in January or attains a legally defined status for which insurance is provided by the state (for example, disability status), the data for premium payment must be submitted by February 1, and the insurance package will become active from March 1.
In cases where a person's status changes such that they are no longer insured by the state, for instance upon turning 18, their insurance status will cease on the first day of the month following their birthday.
The minister added that in the event of a change in residency status or disability category, the relevant data will be updated on the first day of the month following that month, and the status of non-payer will also be erased from that date.
