London Imposes Sanctions on Iranian Interior Minister

The UK Foreign Office has announced that Britain has imposed sanctions on Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni and the security forces (SPIRI) controlled by the Ministry of Interior of the Islamic Republic of Iran.

According to the Foreign Office statement, there are serious grounds to suspect that Eskandar Momeni is responsible for or has been involved in serious human rights violations or abuses in Iran as the country's Interior Minister and Deputy Commander of the Armed Forces in the Police.

The list also indicates that sanctions have been imposed on SPIRI, the Iranian law enforcement agency. Additionally, sanctions have been applied to several regional directors of the Iranian police, judges, and senior officials of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps, as noted in the list. In total, ten individuals and one organization have been sanctioned, according to the list.
