A Scandal Erupts Between the President and Foreign Minister of the Czech Republic as 100,000 People Hold a Rally
A rally in support of President Petr Pavel took place in the capital of the Czech Republic, Prague, amidst a scandal involving him and Foreign Minister Petr Mačínka. This was reported by the newspaper 'European Pravda,' citing iDNES.
The rally was initially planned to be held only in the Old Town Square, but on Saturday, the head of the association, Mikuláš Minář, announced that due to overwhelming interest, organizers would also set up two large screens in the lower part of Wenceslas Square. 'We are preparing standard procedures as we do for every announced gathering, and dozens of police officers will be present on site,' said Prague police spokesperson Jan Daněk.
A scandal erupted in the Czech Republic between the president and the foreign minister due to Mačínka's messages, in which he allegedly attempted to blackmail Pavel regarding the controversial appointment of Filip Turek from the “Drivers for Us” party as Minister of Environment. In messages released by the Czech president, the foreign minister threatens him with consequences if he does not reconsider his decision about Turek.
In turn, Pavel refuses to appoint Turek due to allegations of violence from Turek's former girlfriend against him. Following Pavel's statement, the opposition has called for the foreign minister to resign.
