US Suggests India Resume Oil Purchases from Venezuela: Reuters

The United States imposed tariffs on India for purchasing Venezuelan oil in 2025. However, Washington has now informed New Delhi that it may resume these purchases to replace Russian oil imports. This was reported by Reuters.

The agency notes that India has promised to significantly reduce its purchases of Russian oil following the increase in tariffs by Washington. Specifically, in March 2025, U.S. President Donald Trump imposed a 25% tariff on goods from countries purchasing Venezuelan oil.

After the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on January 3, Washington assumed control over Caracas's government and intends to regulate the country’s oil industry for an indefinite period.
