Ukraine Will Not Be Able to Join the European Union by 2027, Merz
Ukraine will not be able to join the European Union by 2027, stated German Chancellor Friedrich Merz.
According to the Financial Times, if Ukraine agrees to a peace agreement, the U.S. promises not only security guarantees but also EU membership by January 1, 2027. Kyiv is also making this demand.
However, Merz has stated that this is "excluded" and "impossible." He made this statement after a coalition committee meeting, as reported by DPA.
The Chancellor reminded that each candidate country must meet the Copenhagen criteria, a process that usually takes several years. He assessed rapid membership as unrealistic.
