Rutte Cannot Negotiate with the US on Greenland Issue, Says Danish Prime Minister

Following discussions between NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and US President Donald Trump in Davos, several media outlets reported that within the framework of an agreement, Denmark could grant the US "sovereignty over small territories in Greenland" for the construction of military bases.

In an interview with the New York Times, Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen emphasized that the idea of ceding sovereignty is a "red line" that Denmark will not cross, and that Rutte is not authorized to conduct such negotiations on behalf of the country.

Frederiksen praised the 1951 defense treaty between Denmark and the US but did not rule out its revision.
