Kallas on Measures to Strengthen Greenland's Defense
European diplomatic chief Kaya Kallas announced after the EU foreign ministers' meeting that they discussed measures to strengthen Greenland's defense.
“Of course, we talked about Greenland, as well as our common approach and how this makes us stronger when we are united. And, of course, the security issues and what we can do to protect Greenland and other parts of Europe. It was a good, honest, and open discussion, and I would also say quite sober in its perspective,” she stated.
Following the EU foreign ministers' meeting, Kaya Kallas also announced that the EU plans to adopt the 20th package of sanctions against Russia by February 24, 2026. “As for the 20th package of sanctions, yes, we aim to implement it by February 24,” she said.
Russian President Vladimir Putin had previously stated that the policy of restraining and weakening Russia is a long-term western strategy and that sanctions have inflicted serious damage on the entire global economy. He declared that the main goal of the West is to worsen the lives of millions of people.
