Slovakia and Hungary Sue the EU Over Russian Gas Issue
The EU has confirmed a permanent ban on Russian liquefied natural gas starting from 2027. This is part of the REPowerEU plan aimed at a complete rejection of Russian fuel.
However, Slovakia and Hungary disagree. Slovak Foreign Minister Juraj Blanar has announced that the country will file a lawsuit against the EU to annul the decision.
The Hungarian Foreign Minister has explained that according to EU legislation, a unanimous agreement from all 27 member states is required to halt Russian gas supplies. However, the European Commission has approved the decision by a majority vote.
Slovakia believes that a unified deadline for all countries ignores dependence on Russian gas and could harm the economy. The country insists on a tailored approach for each case.
