Armenia Cannot Combine EAEU and EU Standards, Lavrov Says

Transitioning to the standards of the European Union while simultaneously maintaining membership in the Eurasian Economic Union is technically impossible. This was stated by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov during a press conference dedicated to the results of Russian diplomacy's activities in 2025.

According to him, it is evident to any specialist familiar with the operational principles of the Eurasian Economic Union and the European Union that the regulations and standards of these two systems cannot be applied simultaneously by one country. Lavrov noted that the discussion is not about a political assessment but rather about technical incompatibility.

The Russian Foreign Minister emphasized that this issue has been clarified multiple times by Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexey Overchuk in his discussions with Armenian counterparts. He stated that these clarifications particularly pertain to the differences in economic and regulatory mechanisms.

Lavrov's statement came in the context of questions regarding Armenia's aspirations for European integration, highlighting that the unified regulations operating within the EAEU do not align with EU standards.
