Canada Prepares to Send Troops to Greenland

Canada has developed plans to send a small contingent of troops to Greenland to participate in NATO exercises, The Globe and Mail reported on January 19, citing two senior government officials.

“The Canadian Armed Forces are awaiting final political approval from Prime Minister Mark Carney before deploying the soldiers,” the newspaper wrote.

According to the report, the decision is influenced by threats made by U.S. President Donald Trump regarding the Danish territory. If approved, Canadian troops will join forces from Germany, the United Kingdom, France, Denmark, the Netherlands, Norway, Sweden, and Finland, who are already en route to Greenland.
